Statement from the Mayor - March 2, 2021

Mar 2, 2021

Friends and fellow residents,

As we have learned from the Medical Officer of Health, Greater Sudbury has just seen its highest single-day increase of COVID-19 cases. Sadly, we have also lost another resident to COVID-19, and I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of that individual. This virus is having very real and very tragic impacts on our community.

These latest numbers serve as a grave reminder that although the provincial stay at home order officially ended for Greater Sudbury on February 16, that does not mean a return to normal. This virus is still very much present in our community, including the more contagious variants.

As Dr. Sutcliffe has said, we are not out of the woods and we must act now to reverse this troubling trend. It is critical that all of us make smart decisions while vaccinations continue to roll out. Limit contact to those in your household, keep your distance from others, wear your mask, and please don’t travel outside of our region unless it’s absolutely necessary. If our cases keep increasing, it could see us having to step up restrictions again. Let’s work together to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Stay home, stay safe and stay strong, Greater Sudbury. We can do this.
