Greater Sudbury Development Corporation Renews Commitment to Economic Growth

The Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) renewed its commitment to local economic recovery and growth with the appointment of additional community volunteers and a new executive during its Annual General Meeting on June 9.

Four new volunteers were welcomed to the 18-member GSDC Board of Directors following a citywide call for applications: Corissa Blaseg, Marketing and Events Manager with Crosscut Distillery, Tim Lee, Regional Director with DSH Hospitality, Sihong Peng, Senior Engineer, Mine Design with Vale, and Richard Picard, Senior Manager of Commercial Sales with TD Bank.

They replace outgoing GSDC Board members following completion of their three-year term: Peter Nykilchuk, General Manager of Hampton Inn by Hilton and Homewood Suites by Hilton, David Paquette, President of Paquette Management , Erin Danyliw, Owner, Copy Copy Printing and Mike Mayhew, President of Mayhew Performance LTD and Chairman of the Board with 2nd Battery Life Inc.

“On behalf of the GSDC Board of Directors, it is a pleasure to welcome new members to our team,” said newly elected GSDC Board Chair Lisa Demmer. “We extend appreciation to our outgoing volunteers for their tremendous contributions to the betterment of the community. We extend special thanks to outgoing Board Chair Andrée Lacroix for her outstanding leadership and dedication to advancing local economic initiatives and support for business.”

Jeff Portelance, Director of Business Development with Timberland Equipment, will serve as First Vice-Chair, and Shawn Poland, Associate Vice-President of Strategic Enrolment and College Advancement with Cambrian College will serve as Second Vice-Chair of the GSDC Board of Directors.

“The GSDC Board of Directors is comprised of a dedicated team of community leaders," said Mayor Brian Bigger. "As Mayor and as a member of the GSDC Board, I am excited to see new volunteers coming on board with additional perspectives and professional experience that will foster our economy as we rebound from the pandemic. I would like to congratulate new Chair Lisa Demmer and thank outgoing Chair Andrée Lacroix for her service to our community."
