Collection of Garbage, and Leaf and Yard Trimmings Changing to Every Other Week February 2021

As part of City Council’s commitment to an environmentally sustainable community, the extension of the life of our landfills, and ongoing efforts to reduce costs and streamline services, the City is making some changes to your waste collection.

In February 2021, weekly collection of one garbage bag/container/bundle and unlimited leaf and yard trimmings will move to two bags/containers/bundles and unlimited leaf and yard trimmings every other week. Although the frequency of your garbage collection is changing, the number of bags/containers/bundles permitted is the same.
Residents must confirm their new pickup schedule by visiting greatersudbury.ca/wastewise, downloading the Greater Sudbury Waste Wise app or calling 311.

Residents will continue to receive unlimited Blue Box recycling and Green Cart organics collection every week and can also continue to make unlimited requests for large furniture, appliance and electronics pickup.

Information regarding changes to support programs will be mailed to households of current participants, and will be available online in January. Current program applications and information can be found at greatersudbury.ca/supportprograms.

Did you know?

• Scraps of food are generally what cause odours. Put those in your Green Cart and we'll pick it up every week.

• There are lots of things that can go into your Green Cart that can't go into a backyard composter. Put meat scraps, bones, and compostable paper products into your Green Cart.

• Over 45 per cent of waste placed in the garbage should be recycled or diverted from the landfill.
