2020 Easter Weekend Municipal Service Schedule

Apr 9, 2020

As the Easter holiday weekend approaches, Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger is reminding residents of the importance of maintaining physical distancing.

“As the long weekend approaches and spring seems just around the corner, let’s celebrate at home with our loved ones,” said Mayor Bigger. “Let’s reach out, connect and call those we can’t see, so we can all stay safe and celebrate together soon."

Holiday schedules will apply to the following services from Friday, April 10 to Monday, April 13, 2020.

Roadside collection of household waste and recycling normally scheduled for Friday, April 10 will change to Saturday, April 11. During the COVID-19 pandemic, weekly collection has increased to four bags or containers with a maximum weight of 18 kg/40 lbs each. Residents using garbage containers must bag household waste prior to placing it in the container. Garbage that is not bagged will not be collected to ensure the health and safety of staff.

The Recycling Centre remains closed to support physical distancing. The City will collect unlimited amounts of Blue Box recycling, Green Cart organics and leaf and yard trimmings with a maximum weight of 18 kg/40 lbs each. Do not bag recyclables. Place items loosely in a Blue Box. A separate truck may be dispatched to collect leaf and yard trimmings following regularly scheduled collection days.

The Household Hazardous Waste Depot remains closed to support physical distancing. Residents may make an appointment with the Toxic Taxi to receive free home pick-up of household hazardous waste.

Landfills remain closed to the public to support physical distancing. Landfills remain open to commercial vehicles during regular operating hours on Saturday, April 11 and Monday, April 13. Landfills will close to commercial traffic on Friday, April 10.

GOVA Transit will follow holiday routes and schedules on Friday, April 10 and Sunday, April 12. Buses on Monday, April 13 will follow a Sunday service schedule. The Saturday transit schedule is unaffected by the holiday weekend. Passengers must enter and exit through the rear bus doors unless they are using a mobility device. Fares have been temporarily waived. Use public transit only when necessary, as recommended by Public Health.

The Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter will not accept appointments for visits on Friday, April 10 and Monday, April 13. Residents who are interested in adopting a pet must call 311 to schedule a visit.

The Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act prohibits any gathering of more than five people with strict exceptions. This order includes gatherings in private homes unless individuals are residing in the same household. To report unauthorized gatherings, call 311 at any time.
