New Dates for Proposed Valley East Multi-Purpose Recreation Complex Open Houses

Feb 22, 2019

The City of Greater Sudbury has postponed a community consultation regarding a proposed multi-purpose recreation complex next to the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre in Hanmer.

Open houses originally planned for February 26 and 27 will be hosted on March 30 and 31, 2019. Times, locations and details will be confirmed at a later date, along with a new date for the online survey.

The postponement is necessary due to scheduling conflicts. The City of Greater Sudbury apologizes for any inconvenience.

Proposed construction of a multi-purpose recreation complex in Hanmer has been accepted in concept by Greater Sudbury Council for further consideration and community consultation.

The proposed recreation complex could feature such up-to-date amenities as larger ice surfaces than existing arenas, additional dressing rooms, more comfortable seating, a running track, multi-purpose rooms, and an energy-efficient design. The city will be seeking input on design elements and how the proposed facility could incorporate and enhance adjacent parkland.

Future feedback from the community will be used to develop a conceptual site plan for the facility. Results from the community consultation process will form future reports to Council. A budget and timeline for the project have not been approved by Council.
