Jun 27, 2019

SUDBURY – Today Mayor Brian Bigger delivered his fifth State of the City address and the first as Greater Sudbury’s only re-elected mayor in history.  The address was delivered to another sold out crowd at the Caruso Club and was hosted by the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce.

The speech included Mayor Bigger’s new approach when it comes to investment, economic development and growth within the City.

With unemployment at a historic low and the opportunity to ensure Greater Sudbury’s economic future at hand, Mayor Bigger reiterated the he is focused on success, accountability and progress.

“Last October, with every previous member and myself re-elected – that was the vote of confidence we all needed at Council to know we were on the right path,” said Mayor Bigger.

“We’re reshaping how the City as a whole approaches investment, development and our economy. Big changes are happening, and it is all to ensure the short and long-term future our City, and every community that makes up Greater Sudbury is poised for success and growth.”

Mayor Bigger also focused on the environment and how Greater Sudbury is already leading the way on regional, provincial and even global levels when it comes to environmentally friendly and sustainable approaches and policies.

“Residents in Greater Sudbury take great pride in our environment, that is for certain. And just as we did in the previous four decades with the world-renowned regreening program that saw over 10 million trees planted. It’s going to require a community wide effort to ensure our city, our homes, our natural surroundings and our well-being is protected and resilient.”

Mayor Bigger’s State of the City Address is available on the City of Greater Sudbury Website.
