Job Fair Connects Newcomers with Greater Sudbury's Northern Experience

Jun 17, 2019

As part of its commitment to workforce planning, the City of Greater Sudbury will host a job fair in Mississauga on Tuesday, June 25, to recruit employees for job vacancies in Greater Sudbury.

The Make Your Move to Sudbury job fair is exclusive to Greater Sudbury and will be hosted in partnership with the Newcomer Centre of Peel, which works with newcomers in the Greater Toronto Area who are interested in relocating to northern Ontario.

“Greater Sudbury is experiencing the 4th highest growth in employment across Canada and is the perfect place to live, raise a family, work and prosper,” said City of Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger. “From our beautiful natural environment, to our affordable housing options and access to urban and recreational amenities, this is a great opportunity to strengthen our workforce by showcasing what our community has to offer.”

City Economic Development staff will attend the fair, together with local employers, to provide information about Greater Sudbury’s northern lifestyle, while organizations will be available to answer immigration-related questions. The Newcomer Centre of Peel will connect job seekers with Greater Sudbury employers at the event.

“This job fair is an important opportunity for the community, as well as for newcomers looking to make Greater Sudbury their home,” said Acting Director of Economic Development Meredith Armstrong. “Attracting and retaining talent to Greater Sudbury diversifies our economy and helps our community grow.”

Approximately 15 Greater Sudbury businesses will be in attendance. Local employers who are interested in participating can email lynn.despatie@greatersudbury.ca or call 705-674-4455, extension 4435.

According to Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey for May 2019, Greater Sudbury is currently experiencing its lowest unemployment rate in a decade, making it difficult for employers across all sectors to fill vacancies.

The job fair will take place at the Mississauga Civic Centre on June 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
