Greater Sudbury to be Showcased at International MIPIM Conference

The City of Greater Sudbury will continue to build on its strong international reputation as a leading destination fordevelopment and investment at the Marché international des professionnels de l’immobilier (MIPIM) conference in Cannes, France, on March 12, 2019.

The City of Greater Sudbury, thanks to an award received from the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC), will attend the MIPIM conference to launch Greater Sudbury onto the international stage and facilitate connections with the people and businesses that drive the global economy.

MIPIM, the world’s leading real estate event, gathers the most influential players from all sectors of the international property industry for four days of networking and learning through events, conferences and exhibition areas. The event hosts 26,000 participants and more than 360 speakers from 100 countries.

“This opportunity positions Greater Sudbury and northern Ontario in a unique and valuable setting to attract tourism, investment and growth,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger “I am looking forward to showcasing our community to the world, and continuing to build an economically stronger northern Ontario.”

City Council’s The Junction project, which includes the joint Library/Art Gallery and Greater Sudbury Convention and Performance Centre, was awarded the EDAC 2018 MIPIM Award for its outstanding real estate investment opportunity. The award was given based on the downtown revitalization and private sector investment opportunities of the project.

The EDAC MIPIM award prize package includes the cost of booth and registration fees for four participants to attend. In addition, $27,500 in partnership contributions was secured from Destination Northern Ontario, the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation and the Greater Sudbury Airport to cover travel costs. Greater Sudbury Mayor Bigger and City economic development staff will travel to Cannes, France, to attend the conference from March 12 to 15, 2019. Mayor Bigger will participate in a political leader’s session to help gain the attention of top prospects.

“This is a remarkable opportunity to promote The Junction to potential investors and hoteliers, as well as showcase the wide-range of developer and investor opportunities in Greater Sudbury,” said Ian Wood, Acting General Manager of Community Development for the City of Greater Sudbury.“Showcasing these opportunities on the global stage will present our community as an attractive location to invest andbuild.”
