City of Greater Sudbury Responds to Major Weather Event

Nov 28, 2019

Response to the storm continues. Heavy, wet, snow, combined with a drop in temperature, have created challenging conditions, affecting the City’s ability to respond to the storm within the timelines outlined in the current winter control policy.

“I want to thank residents for their patience and understanding as crews continue to respond around the clock to the wet, heavy snow with the goal of ensuring the safety of our community,” said Mayor Brian Bigger. “I am proud of staff for their hard work and dedication in responding to this major weather event.”

Power outages and sagging and downed power and utility lines are impeding vehicles from passing through various areas, which will delay snow plowing and garbage and recycling pick up until the issues are resolved.

The snowfall is extremely wet and heavy causing plowing challenges for snow removal on sidewalks and bus stops, both of which are anticipated to be delayed.

Transit may be delayed in some residential areas. To find out when the next bus will arrive at a stop, visit mybus.greatersudbury.ca.

The City of Greater Sudbury continues to work with and support partner agencies, including Greater Sudbury Hydro, Hydro One and local utility companies, who are responding to numerous power outages and lines down across the community.

Residents without power are invited to find warmth at a Greater Sudbury Public Library. Library locations and hours are posted at www.sudburylibraries.ca. The T.M. Davies Community Centre in Lively is also available for residents to gather until 11 p.m. tonight.

Residents are encouraged to check on friends, family and neighbours who may have accessibility challenges and are located in areas without power. Those who require additional assistance are encouraged to contact 311 to make arrangements for assistance or to be put in touch with support agencies.

Residents are encouraged to follow the City’s Facebook and Twitter for updated information.
