Residents Invited to Be Part of Community Food Bank Survey

Apr 17, 2018

The City of Greater Sudbury is gathering information to better understand local awareness and use of community food banks. Residents are invited to participate in an anonymous online survey at overtoyou.greatersudbury.ca or on paper at Greater Sudbury Public Libraries and local food banks from Tuesday, April 17 until midnight on Monday, April 30.

Results of the survey will be presented to the Greater Sudbury Community Services Committee with the goal of evaluating current access to the local emergency food bank system.

It’s estimated that more than 14,000 people access local food programs each month in Greater Sudbury. This figure includes food banks, school breakfast programs, community meal providers and the Good Food Box that supplies fresh fruits and vegetables at an affordable cost.

The survey will help determine how many and how frequently residents use each of the community’s 14 food banks. The survey will also look at what barriers may prevent residents from using this service and whether residents are familiar with opportunities to volunteer or donate.

For more information about the community food bank survey, please contact Vivienne Martin, Manager of Employment Support Services at vivienne.martin@greatersudbury.ca or call 705-674-4455, extension 3853.
