City Helps Residents Beat the Heat By Opening Cooling Centres and Extending Lifeguard Supervision at Municipal Beaches

Due to the heat warning declared by Environment Canada, the City of Greater Sudbury is extending the hours at municipal facilities and lifeguard supervision at municipal beaches throughout the long weekend. 

Starting Saturday, June 30, lifeguards will be on duty from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Hours will be extended until the warning has been lifted. The following municipal beaches have lifeguard supervision:
•    Bell Park Main Beach, off Elizabeth Street, Sudbury
•    Kalmo Beach, off Kalmo Beach Road, Val Caron
•    Moonlight Beach, off Moonlight Beach Road, Sudbury
•    Nepahwin Park Beach, off Paris Street, Sudbury
•    Meatbird Lake Park, off M.R. 24, Lively
•    Whitewater Lake Park, off Laurier St. W., Azilda

Parents are reminded that children should always be accompanied by an adult and older children should always “swim with a buddy” for greater safety. Capreol Beach remains closed for construction of the Capreol Waterfront Community Improvement Plan project. 

Municipal facilities will see extended hours of operation and will be available as cooling centres on Saturday, June 30. 
•    The following Libraries/Citizen Service Centres will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
o    Main Library
o    South End Library
o    New Sudbury Library
o    Lively Library & Citizen Service Centre
o    Valley East Library & Citizen Service Centre
o    Chelmsford Library & Citizen Service Centre
o    Coniston Library
o    Levack/Onaping Library
o    Capreol Library & Citizen Service Centre

•    The following Community Centres will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
o    Garson Community Centres in Garson
o    McClelland Community Centre in Copper Cliff
o    Dr. Edgar Leclair Community Centre in Azilda
o    Dowling Leisure Centre in Dowling
o    Centennial Community Centre in Hanmer

On Sunday, July 1, the following municipal facilities will be available as cooling centres: 
•    All Libraries/Citizen Service Centres will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Library locations can be found at www.sudburylibraries.ca.
