Traffic Updates: Week of August 8, 2017

Second Ave.: Second Avenue will close between Hebert Street and Kenwood Street from Tuesday, August 8 to August 25, 2017 as part of the Second Avenue reconstruction and widening project.  Detours will direct northbound traffic right onto Hebert and southbound traffic left onto Kenwood. Temporary speed bumps will be installed along the detour to control traffic speed through this residential area.

Kingsway: Construction of a sidewalk and boulevard from Silver Hills Drive to just west of Bancroft Drive on the north side of the Kingsway will start Tuesday, August 8. Construction will close the westbound curb lane between Silver Hills and Bancroft. Throughout the duration of this project, the contractor will make every effort to maintain four lanes of traffic on the Kingsway.

M.R. 35: Permanent traffic signals will be installed on Municipal Road 35 at the Day Construction/Milman Industries entrance. The entrance is located approximately 2 km west of the existing traffic signals at Clarabelle Road. Construction of a new concrete island and paving will require occasional lane closures in both directions from August 8 to September 8, 2017.

Elgin St.: The CP Canada 150 Train is rolling into Greater Sudbury on Tuesday, August 8 with a number of family-friendly activities. To prepare for the event, Elgin Street will close to traffic all day August 8 between the Minto/Van Horne Street intersection and Drinkwater Street. There will be no parking in the CP lot. Monthly parking pass holders may park on York Street for free shuttle service to and from the Sudbury Community Arena between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

M.R. 80: Construction of the Maley Drive Extension will require lane closures on M.R. 80 (Hwy 69N) for 2.2 km north from Turner Avenue starting Tuesday, August 8 to August 31, 2017. Rock blasting will stop traffic in both directions for approximately five to 15 minutes between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Motorists are reminded to obey the 60 km/h speed limit in this area. Residents picking blueberries are advised not to come within 500 metres of the construction zone.

M.R. 55: Westbound lanes on M.R. 55 will close three times for five minutes each time, between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Work is associated with the CPR Overhead Bridge Rehabilitation.
