This Week at The Market: Summer Reading, Baby Bok Choy, Gifts for Teachers and Musical Entertainment

Jun 16, 2017

This Saturday, June 17, The Market is offering up some family fun, just in time for Father’s Day! Join the Greater Sudbury Public Library for the launch of a new Little Free Library. Take a book, leave a book, and sign up for the Summer Reading Program too! At 10 a.m., join the read-aloud of this year’s Reading Town selection, Small Saul, and if you are among the first families there, you’ll get a copy to bring home!

The family fun continues with Afro Madness Drum Troupe who will lead two participatory drum circles at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., using a wide variety of percussion based instruments, and ending in a community celebration-drumming finale. At noon we welcome a short performance by the Sudbury Theatre Centre Vocal Students, under the direction of Kelly Perras.

More and more local produce is coming into season and local growers are bringing the freshest homegrown and hand-picked items available, straight from their farms to your table. Three Forks Farm will feature Baby Bok Choy this week, along with their delicious kale, sprouts, radishes, chard and microgreens. La Baguette Magique is featuring rhubarb pies made with local fresh Rhubarb, as well as dad's favourite desserts for Father's Day such as butter tarts and fudgy chewy brownies.

Our crafters have been working hard to produce local Hand-crafted gifts for dads and teachers too! Plain Jane Crafts is offering a special teacher charm and a gift bag for any bracelet chosen for a teacher. Heidi Stewart creates one-of-a-kind costume jewelry that is never duplicated—perfect for teachers with great taste! Old Soul Soap Company has Father's Day, Happy Camper and teacher gift boxes this weekend for only $25.00 each—that’s half price! Men Can Sew has matching Marvel apron sets, perfect for Father’s Day! And Dare 2 Dream Alpaca Products will be offering a special sale on alpaca socks and insoles combination as a great gift idea for dads. Finally, Applegarth Embroidery is featuring soft stuffed animals for the little ones in your life. Every week there are new faces and animals in the hooded towel collection, so come in and browse!

The Market showcases Fresh Ideas every Saturday, from 8 am to 2 pm downtown at the VIA station, and Thursdays starting July 6 in the York Street parking lot from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
