This Week at The Market: Strawberries, Peas and The Sudbury Guitar Trio

This week at The Market we are thinking about pollinators for National Pollinator Week. It’s all thanks to bees and bugs doing their work today that we can look forward to enjoying our late summer fruit and vegetables. You can support pollinator activity in your own garden by planting flowers that feed and attract these beneficial insects. Come see our growers for hanging baskets, wildflowers, flowering annuals and more!

Local farmers will be serving up more regional delights. Freskiw Farms will be joining us for the first time this season featuring hanging baskets, herbs, including local basil, plus Ontario Strawberries and peas.
Geo Green will have organic rhubarb, fresh cut basil as well as the plants, strawberry and strawberry rhubarb jam from local sources, and locally grown fresh herbs and bedding plants.

And brand-new this week, Three Forks Farm will have their first shipment of organic pastured chicken for sale.

Our food producers are busy preparing items for your local feasting pleasure. The Perogy Princess is featuring regular, cherry and blueberry buttertarts: for $5 for a package of 4, and she will also have organic baby kale and spinach from her garden. On special are Strawberry perogies and Apple Pie perogies. Get them while they last!

La Baguette Magique will once again be bringing the famous strawberry rhubarb pies made with local rhubarb, and new this week will be hand pies for people to enjoy while they are touring the market.

Come and see our artisans for unique items—for giving to others, or even to yourself! Men Can Sew has jean skirt hand bags featured this week. They come in a variety of sizes & colours great for Market shopping or for the beach! String Things is highlighting throw pillows this week. And Old Soul Soap Company has Teacher and Happy Camper gift boxes this week for $25 each.

This Saturday The Market welcomes The Sudbury Guitar Trio to the stage at 11 am for a free outdoor concert! Formed in 2011, the Sudbury Guitar Trio has delighted audiences locally, nationally and internationally with their eclectic sound, from classical to fun arrangements of popular music. This concert is not to be missed! Sidewalk chalk will also be available for kids throughout the day for some hands-on fun.

Come and check out our Fresh Ideas every Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. downtown at the VIA station.
For even more Homegrown, Handpicked and Handcrafted delights, mark your calendar for our first Thursday market, July 6 in the York St. parking lot, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and continuing weekly through September 21.
