Greater Sudbury Transit Fare Changes Take Effect February 1

Friday, January 27, 2017.

New prices for Greater Sudbury Transit cash fares and ride cards come into effect February 1, 2017, as approved by Council under the Miscellaneous User Fee By-law.

“Fares and improved efficiencies are necessary to help offset the cost of operating a public transit service,” said Director of Greater Sudbury Transit Michelle Ferrigan. “Over the past year, we’ve introduced new fare categories, including day, family and affordable monthly passes. Over the coming year, we’ll be working on further customer service improvements with a focus on more effective bus routes.”

New fare categories will remain available in 2017. Day passes provide unlimited travel for one day aboard Greater Sudbury Transit for $9.50. Family passes provide up to five riders with unlimited travel for one day for $15.50.

An affordable transit pass program will continue in 2017 on a trial basis for qualifying low-income residents between the ages of 18 and 64. A Greater Sudbury Transit fare and transportation grant is also available to eligible not-for-profit charitable and community groups in need of charters or bus fare to a local event or program.

Greater Sudbury Transit currently serves 38 routes with 59 accessible buses, supplemented with TransCab service to provide door-to-door transportation in areas outside of conventional transit service. Greater Sudbury Transit also manages a contract to provide door-to-door transportation to persons with disabilities through Handi-Transit.
