Community Consultation for Whitewater Lake Subwatershed Study and Master Plan

Oct 27, 2017

The City of Greater Sudbury will begin the first of a series of consultation sessions for the Whitewater Lake subwatershed study. The first public open house will take place on November 2 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Dr. Edgar Leclair Community Centre, located at 158 St. Agnes St. in Azilda.

Our water resources are an important aspect of daily living in our community. From drinking water for our residents and animals, to supporting habitat for our plants and wildlife, as well as providing great recreation opportunities, protecting our watersheds has been identified as a priority in the City of Greater Sudbury’s Official Plan.

What are we looking to achieve? We want to get a 360° look at the health of our subwatershed systems. How will we do this? We’ll be looking at stormwater-related risks when it comes to land-use decisions and community planning. This will help to develop a strong framework for responsible development within the subwatershed areas to preserve and enhance the natural environment.

The consultation session is aimed at providing research and field work completed to date to provide clear next steps for developing the management targets and objectives for the watershed.

Can’t make the meeting? Feedback can be submitted online at www.greatersudbury.ca/watershedstudy2016. Feedback will be accepted until Friday, November 10, at 4:30 p.m.
