Victory Park Accessible Splash Pad Opens with Support from the Province of Ontario

Jun 19, 2015

Victory Park Playground at 496 Frood Road in Greater Sudbury now offers an accessible splash pad thanks to contributions from the Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario. In support of an application supplied though the Loyal Order of the Moose Sudbury Lodge 230, a contribution worth $80,000 was donated by the foundation. This was combined with $50,000 in municipal dollars and additional funds raised by the DEWCAN.

“This grant will give children in our community a terrific opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and stay active in the heat of summer, said Greater Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault. “Sudbury is a wonderful place to call home, and through the contribution of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the City of Greater Sudbury and the community of the Park, we can continue to strengthen this reputation.”

The objective of the Victory Park enhancement is to promote inclusion and to provide a safe and accessible space for residents of all ages and abilities to be able to use and enjoy.  The addition of a splash pad is part of ongoing enhancements the park has received over the last 5 years. The playground is also home to a community garden.

“We are deeply grateful to the Trillium Foundation, the Loyal Order of the Moose Sudbury Lodge 230 and the Dewcan for their contributions, without which our vision would not have come to fruition,” said Ward 4 Councillor Evelyn Dutrisac.  “Community infrastructure like this splash pad can have a real positive impact on our neighbourhoods. These park enhancements pull communities together as children and families engage in healthy activities.”
