Kin Park Accessible Playground Opens with Support from the Province of Ontario

The Kin Park Playground on 2732 Langdon Street in Blezard Valley now offers an accessible playground thanks to contributions from the Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Government of Ontario. In support of an application supplied through the Kin Club of Valley East, a contribution worth $101,100 was donated by the foundation. This was combined with $15,000 in municipal dollars, and additional funds donated by, the Kin Club of Valley East, Scotiabank and the generous support of the local community.

“Accessible recreation facilities are a vital part of a healthy community. They bring families and youth of all abilities together and promote physical and social activities, “said Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas. “I am proud the Government of Ontario and the City of Greater Sudbury are helping the people of Nickel Belt gain greater access to facilities, programs and services in their communities.”

Through this project, individuals of all abilities will be able to not only enjoy the accessible playground but will also have full access to the field house which has also been updated to include an accessible entrance, washrooms and renovated kitchen. Two designated parking spots have also been added. The objectives of these enhancements are to promote inclusion and to provide a safe and accessible space for residents of all ages and abilities to use and enjoy.

“I thank the Trillium Foundation for its support of this project and recognize the dedicated fundraising efforts of the Kin Club Neighbourhood Park Association,” said Ward 5 Councillor Robert Kirwan. “The accessible amenities will mean individuals of all abilities can come together in a safe and fun venue.  I look forward to seeing our community enjoying the playground.”
