The Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) is seeking 12 citizens for appointment to the Cultural Action Committee.

The committee is being formed as a result of the recently endorsed Greater Sudbury Cultural Plan 2015-2020, which demonstrates the City of Greater Sudbury’s recognition of the value of culture in the community.

A Cultural Action Plan was drafted to accompany the Cultural Plan and lays out specific actions within the four strategic directions of Creative Identity, Creative People, Creative Places and Creative Economy. It outlines potential initiatives, partners, resources and timelines to help realize the goals of the plan.

Cultural Action Committee members will work with the GSDC Arts and Culture Business Development Officer to provide a credible, expert resource for the implementation of the plan. The committee will represent the diversity among the city’s residents, and its business, education, and arts and cultural communities. It will serve as a forum for soliciting the opinions of the larger community on issues related to the actions identified in the Cultural Action Plan.

Committee members will be selected with consideration to fair representation of cultural and artistic disciplines, gender, geography, and cultural diversity. Applicants must be residents of the City of Greater Sudbury and must be at least 18 years old. Appointments are unpaid volunteer positions.

Applications and resumes can be sent to Emily Trottier, Business Development Officer, and should include a letter detailing reasons for interest, and a list of direct affiliations with local arts and culture initiatives.

The Cultural Action Committee will meet on a quarterly basis at Tom Davies Square, located at 200 Brady St. Committee members will have the option of a two- or three-year term, from July 2015 to July 2017, or from July 2015 to July 2018.
