Greater Sudbury Springs into Street Sweeping

Street sweeping operations have begun in the City of Greater Sudbury. City crews have started sweeping sidewalks, boulevards, medians and some streets throughout the area. Currently, business centres and the Sudbury Rocks Marathon routes are areas of high priority, but once those areas are clear, crews will continue on to other parts of the area.

Two street sweeping contractors are set to begin work on Monday, May 5. Bruell Contracting Ltd. will sweep streets in the Capreol, Hanmer, Val Caron, Chelmsford,  Azilda and Lively areas. A & G The Road Cleaners Ltd. will sweep the former City of Sudbury, Copper Cliff, New Sudbury, Garson, Falconbridge and Minnow Lake areas. Both contractors are entering the first year of a three-year contract with the City.

Citizens are reminded to not leave large piles of sand on the road, instead sweep sand from property in an evenly distributed line so sweepers can more easily maintain it.

Historically, street sweeping starts between the end of March to mid-April and is completed by the end of May. However, given the late spring we experienced this year, the City’s sweeping program started  later than usual and will have a later completion date as well.

Citizens with questions about street sweeping or other road maintenance are asked to dial 3-1-1 for municipal services.
