Five Citizens Appointed to Greater Sudbury Development Corporation Board of Directors

Brent Battistelli, Yonaniko Grenon, Daran Moxam, Jennifer Witty and Dr. Pierre Zundel have been appointed to the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) Board of Directors for three year terms. The appointments were announced at the GSDC Annual General Meeting on June 18, 2014, following a citywide call for applications. Service on the GSDC Board of Directors is an unpaid, volunteer position.

“Each of these volunteers brings expertise and experience to this board,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Marianne Matichuk. “On behalf of City Council, I welcome our new directors and I look forward to their contributions to move our city forward.”

Brent Battistelli is President of Battistelli’s Independent Grocer in Lively. He holds a combined degree in Economics/Business which he has applied to 33 years in the grocery industry. Brent has served as Chair of the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers from 2011 to 2013 and the Walden Economic Development Committee from 1998 to 2001. He has been a volunteer coach for 27 years with local soccer and hockey teams.

Yonaniko (Iyo) Grenon is Senior Communications Specialist with Glencore Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations. Prior to joining Glencore’s Sudbury office, Iyo completed a four year assignment as Director of External Affairs with Glencore’s Koniambo project in New Caledonia. A graduate of the University of Kansas with a double major in Journalism and French Literature, Iyo possesses over 15 years experience in high level crisis management, media and community relations.

Daran Moxam is a Portfolio Manager and Partner with Moxam Cassio Wealth Management and Director of Wealth Management at ScotiaMcLeod. In addition to an Honours Bachelor of Commerce, Daran has earned designations as a Chartered Investment Manager and Certified Financial Planner. His volunteer experience includes the Sudbury District Girls Hockey Association, the Brian Savage Charity Golf Tournament and Chair of the Sudbury YMCA. He currently serves on the Laurentian University Hockey Advisory Council.

Jennifer Witty is Superintendent of Human Resources Systems with Vale Ontario Operations. As a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) holding a Master of Business Administration, Jennifer began her career in the mining industry when she joined Inco in 2001. She currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Laurentian University Board of Governors and was an elected member of the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for six years.

Dr. Pierre Zundel is President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sudbury and President of the Consortium of Francophone Universities of Ontario. He has received the United Way Community Partner Award for his volunteer work as the Chair of the Board of Shared Space Sudbury. Dr. Zundel holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Forest Harvesting and Economics) from Laval University.

The Greater Sudbury Development Corporation is the economic development arm of the City of Greater Sudbury. Consisting of a 17-member Board of Directors and supported by municipal staff, the GSDC acts as a catalyst for economic development initiatives and supports the attraction, development and retention of business in the community.
