When the summer heat hits, the beach is the perfect place to cool off. The City of Greater Sudbury owns and operates several supervised beaches across the city.
Beach Closure Notice

A possible blue-green algal bloom has been identified at Centennial beach. As a precautionary measure, the City of Greater Sudbury has closed the designated swimming area until the bloom is no longer present. The beach will reopen once conditions are safe. Signs have been posted advising the public not to swim, drink the water or allow pets in the water where an algal bloom is present. If no bloom is visible, the water may continue to be used for regular recreational activities. Blue-green algae can appear as green, blue-green or turquoise water that may resemble pea soup, paint or scum on the water's surface. Some blooms can produce toxins that may pose health risks to people and pets. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, as algal blooms can move or develop in other areas of the lake.
Hours and Etiquette
Lifeguards are on duty seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. between June 13 and August 23, 2026. (Beach season begins on the third Saturday in June and ends the third Sunday in August.)
Children should always be accompanied by an adult and remain within arm's reach.
