Where lead sampling is done

The Lead Sampling Program is only offered in parts of the City of Greater Sudbury that are part of the Sudbury Drinking Water System.

At this time, household lead sampling is done only in the core of Sudbury, including:

  • The David Street system (serving the South End to the Donovan), and
  • The Wanapitei system (serving Coniston, Minnow Lake, and New Sudbury)

If you live outside of these areas, your home is not eligible for the Program.

Why testing is done in Sudbury

The Sudbury Drinking Water System does not have a lead issue. However, it is a large system with many service connections, and provincial rules require the City to collect a certain number of lead samples each year. The number of required samples is based on:

  • Population size
  • Number of service connections
  • Past test results

This testing helps ensure drinking water continues to meet provincial safety standards.
