5. Disinfection

  • Chlorine is added to the water as a means of disinfection to ensure that any remaining disease-causing bacteria or organisms still present in the water, are sterilized, and killed. This final tank or “contact chamber” is designed like a maze as to slow the flow of water to a specific velocity that allows for a sufficient chlorine contact time. Once the treated water has exited the final holding tank, chlorine is neutralized using sodium bisulfite.
