2. Sewage Enters a Grit Chamber Tank
- A vortex grit chamber is used to remove smaller material from sewage water. Sand, rocks, eggshells, and bone chips are all examples of “grit” material that is removed in this tank.
- Rotational motion increases the velocity within the chamber, causing the lighter liquids and organics to be thrown to the outer edges and the grit materials to settle out at the bottom of the tank.
