Rooftop Vents

To properly allow wastewater to drain when we use the washing machine, flush the toilet or take a shower, the plumbing system in a household or building needs to be properly vented. This is typically accomplished using a rooftop vent. Ventilating the drains allows air to enter the pipes behind wastewater, equalizing the pressure within the pipes on either side of the water flow. Ventilating sewer drains also prevents sewer gas from entering a household or a building by redirecting the flow of gas through the ventilation pipes outside of buildings. Rooftop vents also alleviate pressure buildup within the municipal sanitary system by again, allowing gas to be released from the system. To ensure that the sewage draining system operates efficiently, it is important that these ventilation pipes are well maintained and are not obstructed. Regularly inspecting rooftop vents and clearing out any debris that is obstructing the vent will help prevent damage, and clogs.
