Curb Stops
The curb stop has a cover that measures about 13 cm (5 inch) in diameter and provides access to an underground valve which controls City water delivery to your property. In the event of an emergency, the City may need to turn off water delivery to your property using this valve. It is also possible that you may need to turn off your water service during building renovations, in which case City crews can turn off the valve at the curb stop for a fee.
How to care for your curb stop:
- Never bury it or make it hard to access.
- The curb stop cover should be flush with ground level. If it is too high or too low, call 311 and the City will send someone to adjust it. This is not an emergency.
- Never remove the cover of your curb stop. The cover prevents dirt from entering the valve.
- Report any problems or damage to your curb stop by calling 311.
