Sewer Use By-Law
Sewer Use By-law 2010-188 protects the environment, residents and the wastewater treatment system from dangerous conditions, damage, breakdown and contamination.
Fines and Penalties for Violations
Customers who do not comply with the by-law are liable for a fine of between $5,000 and $10,000 per day for a first offence. Corporations are liable for a fine of up to $50,000 per day for a first offence.

Industrial/Commercial/Institutional Wastewater Customers
If you own or work in any of the following types of businesses, you should read the Sewer Use By-Law and make sure your waste disposal methods comply with the by-law:
Hauled Liquid Waste
Hauled liquid waste is domestic sewage that is suitable for treatment in a wastewater treatment facility. It includes:
- Waste removed from a cesspool, septic tank, privy pit, chemical toilet, portable toilet or sewage holding tank and grey water from residential activities.
- Sewage from on-board holding tanks (e.g. RVs, tour buses, boats, etc.) is deemed domestic sewage and will be accepted at the municipal septage receiving station.
