Responsibility for Sewer Pipes

The sewer pipes between the sewer main and the property line are the City’s responsibility to maintain. The pipes between the property line and your home are your responsibility to maintain.

If you comply with the City’s sewer use and source control by-law, and a sewer backup happens because of issues on the City’s portion of the sewer service, you may be eligible for a reimbursement. 

If you experience a sewer a backup and the issue is on your portion of the sewer line then the City is not responsible for costs associated with repair.
