Getting around the roundabout
- Slow down when approaching the roundabout
- Keep to the right of the “splitter island”.
- Choose the correct entry lane. To turn right, get in the right lane. To turn left, get in the left lane. To go straight, get in either lane.
- Watch the crosswalk and stop for pedestrians
- Move to the yield line and wait for a gap in traffic before entering the roundabout. Yield to all traffic to your left, including cyclists.
- Do not enter beside someone already in the roundabout because they may be exiting. Drivers in the roundabout always have the right-of-way.
- Within the roundabout always travel counterclockwise and do not stop. You have the right-of-way over entering traffic.
- Do not pass other vehicles in the roundabout. Give large vehicles extra space because they may need both lanes.
- As you approach your exit, use your right turn signal and take the exit while maintaining a slow speed. Do not change lanes before exiting.
