Travelling With Your Mobility Device

  • GOVA Plus buses can accommodate mobility devices up to 54 inches (1.4 m) in length and 33 inches (84 cm) in width. GOVA Plus buses are unable to accommodate anything larger. Ramps on the buses can accommodate a maximum of 500 pounds (226 kg). Therefore, the combined weight of the passenger and wheelchair or scooter cannot exceed 500 pounds (226 kg).
  • For your safety and the safety of other passengers and GOVA Plus bus operators, mobility devices must be in good condition and remain unaltered – this includes air in tires, functional brakes, wheelchair footrests attached and wheelchair anti-tip systems present and in working order.
  • GOVA Plus will not provide transportation to passengers using mobility devices that are not in good condition. Passengers will be responsible for repairs to their device before rides can be provided.
  • GOVA Plus bus operators are responsible for securing wheelchairs, scooters, and walkers. Please ensure there is nothing hanging or attached to your mobility device that prohibits the ability of the GOVA Plus bus operator to safely secure your device.
  • Powered mobility devices must be secured using a four-point safety system while travelling on a GOVA Plus bus.
  • If you are using a manual “transfer” style or hospital wheelchair or a scooter, you will need to transfer from the wheelchair or scooter to a seat on the bus.
  • Please note that if you are self-propelling in your manual wheelchair your footrests do not need to be attached. However, for safety reasons, the GOVA Plus bus operator is not permitted to assist you.
  • Mobility devices must be used only for their intended purpose.
  • GOVA Plus will not transport mobility devices without the passenger who requires the device.
  • Due to space limitations, GOVA Plus allows only one mobility device per passenger.
