Support Persons

One support person may travel with you free of charge on GOVA Plus. A support person is a person specifically employed or designated by you to assist with your daily living needs, including travel.

If you are travelling with a support person, you must reserve an extra seat for them on GOVA Plus when you book your trip.

A support person is required to accompany you on GOVA Plus if you:

  • Are prone to seizures or other medical conditions requiring a support person.

  • Require assistance for mobility (i.e., have difficulty using a walker or other mobility device without physical, weighted support).

  • Cannot independently make your way to your destination.

  • Pose a flight risk if left alone on the GOVA Plus vehicle.

  • Cannot be left alone to wait for the GOVA Plus vehicle.

  • Display unacceptable behaviour or use unacceptable language that affects the comfort or safety of other passengers and/or the GOVA Plus bus operator.

The support person travelling with you must be able to physically assist you when boarding and exiting the bus if necessary and is expected to be responsible for your medical, behavioural and hygienic needs.

If your application states that you require a support person while travelling on GOVA Plus, your support person must be present with you at the time of your pick up, or your ride will be cancelled.

Please note that guests and companions are not the same as support persons. Please see the section for travelling with guests and companions for more information.
