Fares and Passes Policies

For the purpose of this policy, "Transit Products" includes Magnetic Passes, Paper Passes, GOVA Pass mobile app passes, GOVA Pass Smart Cards, ride cards, fare media, and any other transit products issued by the City of Greater Sudbury.

  • All Transit Products, GOVA Pass accounts, and GOVA Transit Photo IDs remain the property of the City of Greater Sudbury and are non-refundable.
  • Fare evasion, failure to present valid transit identification when required, misuse of a Transit Product or GOVA Transit Photo ID, sharing of passes, unauthorized use of accounts, alteration or reproduction of any Transit Product, or manipulation of mobile device settings may result in one, or all of the following:
    • Immediate confiscation of the Transit Product(s);
    • Account deactivation, including suspension of all Transit Products associated with the account.
    • Denial of access to transit services; and/or
    • Enforcement action under the Trespass to Property Act.
  • Deactivated or suspended accounts may result in the permanent suspension of all associated Transit Products. No refunds, credits, replacements, or transfers will be provided for confiscated or suspended Transit Products.
  • Transit Products purchased through the GOVA Pass mobile app are for individual use only and may not be shared. Accounts and digital wallets are linked to the device on which they were created/purchased and cannot be transferred to another user.
  • Proof of eligibility is required for all reduced fares. Riders using a reduced fare must obtain and carry a valid, non-transferable GOVA Transit Photo ID and present it upon request when boarding or when purchasing transit products.

Violation(s) of these policies may result in Transit Product confiscation, account deactivation, suspension of all associated Transit Products, suspension of transit privileges, and/or denial of access to service under the Trespass to Property Act.

GOVA Transit is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or misplaced Transit Products, GOVA Transit Photo IDs, or related account information.
