If your Ontario Works Benefits Have Been Reduced or Cut Off
If you do not agree with a decision about your Ontario Works benefits being reduced or cut off, please follow the steps below:
Step One
- Request an internal review by writing a letter or filling out a Request for Internal Review form ( PDF, 354 KB) and send it to your local Ontario Works office. This must be done within 30 days of your benefits being reduced or cut off.
- The case presenting officer for the office will complete the review.
- Once we receive your request you can expect a written decision of the internal review within 30 days.
Step Two
- If you disagree with the internal review decision, you have 30 days to appeal to the Social Benefits Tribunal.
- If you are experiencing financial hardship while you wait for this appeal, you can ask the Tribunal for financial help.
- If the Tribunal decides you are eligible for assistance while you are waiting for your hearing, you will be notified in writing.
- If you lose your appeal, you must pay back any assistance you received while waiting for your hearing.
