Coverage While on Ontario Works Assistance
There are a number of items covered up to a maximum amount under discretionary assistance. Your case worker or employment counselor can provide you with an up to date list of items and maximum amounts. Some items covered include:
- Blood pressure machines/kits/monitors
- Cribs and child car seats
- Pre-natal vitamins
- Prosthetic devices such as braces, canes, casts, crutches, hearing aids, orthotics and compression stockings
- Lice treatments
- Moving and storage
- Appliance replacement and repair: fridge, stove, washer, dryer
- Beds: twin, double, bunk beds, futons, bed bug mattress cover
- Pest control
- Tub/shower grab bars
Counseling
If you suffer from depression, anxiety or any other personal issues that prevent you from going to school or work, we can provide you with a referral to a community counseling provider. Short term counseling sessions at no cost to you are provided in a confidential environment with a trained counselor to help work through a challenging life issue.
