A food strategy will help guide the community in our next steps towards an equitable, vibrant and sustainable food system that provides residents with accessible, affordable and nutritious food.

The Greater Sudbury Food Strategy identifies short- and long-term actions to help enhance our current regional food system and prepare for growth and change in the future. Key elements include:

  • social justice
  • environmental sustainability
  • healthy eating
  • economic and community growth

In 2025, the Greater Sudbury Food Policy Council, with assistance from the City of Greater Sudbury, developed a Food System Assessment. It revisits the goals of the Food Strategy, examining the successes and challenges throughout the food system eight years later, and offers recommendations for meaningful change across seven core themes. Our Regional Food System

Our regional food system consists of Greater Sudbury and areas outside the city limits (such as farms and communities) where citizens of Greater Sudbury get, or will get, a significant portion of their food.

We hope to continue to engage with the community to work towards an economically viable and ecologically sustainable food system.
