Efficient Buildings
Periodically increase the energy efficiency of new buildings until all new buildings in 2030 onward are Passive House energy efficiency compliant.
Goal 3
The existing building stock is retrofit for 50% increased energy efficiency by 2040 and large buildings are routinely recommissioned.
Goal 4
Achieve net-zero emissions in City buildings by 2040.
What can you do?
- Take simple steps to conserve energy. Turn off and unplug devices when they're not in use and air-dry your clothes.
- Make minor upgrades to your apartment or house, like switching to a programmable thermostat and energy efficient appliances that are ENERGY STAR® certified.
- If you're able to make bigger upgrades to your home, consider things like more efficient windows, furnace, and insulation.
- If you're thinking of moving, consider a smaller home or a multi-unit dwelling. It's more efficient when you don't have excess space to heat or cool!
- Have your say! During public input opportunities, ask for new public buildings to meet passive standards.
