Greater Sudbury Fire Services

Greater Sudbury Fire Services is a dedicated team of career and volunteer firefighters committed to delivering comprehensive fire protection services across the City of Greater Sudbury. Our mission is to safeguard lives, property, and the environment through effective emergency response, prevention, education, and training.

We operate a robust fleet of 140 small and large vehicles and associated equipment from 18 fire stations, ten of which are shared with Paramedic Services to enhance emergency response coordination.

Our department is structured into several specialized sections to ensure efficient service delivery:

  • Fire Administration – Oversees strategic planning, budgeting, and departmental leadership.
  • Fire Suppression Section – Provides frontline emergency response to fires, rescues, and hazardous incidents.
  • Training Section – Ensures all personnel maintain high standards of operational readiness and safety.
  • Fire Prevention and Education Section – Promotes fire safety awareness and conducts inspections to reduce fire risks.
  • Fleet and Equipment Section – Manages the maintenance and readiness of all vehicles and firefighting equipment.

For a detailed understanding of the services we provide and the regulatory framework that guides our operations, we encourage you to review the City of Greater Sudbury’s Establishing and Regulating By-law for Fire Services (By-law 2020-58). This by-law outlines our responsibilities under provincial legislation and defines the scope of fire protection services offered throughout the municipality.
