A Part 9 building applies to housing and small buildings that are:

  • 3 storeys or less in building height, and/or 
  • Building area not exceeding 600 m², and
  • Used for residential, business and personal services, retail, or industrial (low-medium hazard)

  • Additional dwelling units
  • Single family dwellings
  • Semi-detached homes
  • Duplexes
  • Row houses
  • Townhouses
  • Multiple unit dwellings

Small commercial and business buildings

  • Small office buildings
  • Retail shops
  • Personal service shops

Small industrial (low- to medium-hazard) buildings

  •  Storage buildings (non-hazardous contents)

Accessory structures

  • Detached Garages
  • Detached Carports
  • Sheds
  • Decks
  • Porches
  • Gazebos
  • Greenhouses
  • Shipping and storage containers (used for storage)

A Part 3 building applies to Large Buildings that are:

  • More than 3 storeys in building height, and/or
  • Greater than 600 m² in building area,
  • All uses
