Emergency Shelter

  • We provide short-term care to dogs and cats that are temporarily homeless because of an eviction, incarceration, fire, medical or similar emergency for five days. If the pet owner is unable to take back the pet, it will be assessed for adoptability.
  • You are responsible for boarding fees and veterinary expenses. An impound fee will be applied after five days. Some or all fees may be waived for humanitarian reasons under appropriate circumstances.

Surrendered Pets

The Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter’s primary goal is to reunite stray animals with their owners. We can only accept surrenders when we have space to do so. If you surrender your pet to the Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter, you give up all rights and are not entitled to any further information about the animal.

If you are surrendering a pet

  • Appointments are required for all pet surrenders and are dependent on space availability
  • Contact us at 705-694-PETS (7387) for complete information
  • There will be a fee to surrender your pet
