Plan Your Next Trip to Downtown Sudbury

With events, businesses, restaurants and entertainment bringing people downtown this fall, residents and visitors have a number of options for getting there and getting around.

As work continues on the Event Centre, some downtown parking locations have changed to accommodate construction. GOVA Transit is another option for getting to events, businesses and other downtown destinations. 

Parking Downtown
Municipal parking is available at locations throughout the downtown, including the CP Rail/Elgin Street Lot, Shaughnessy East Lot and Tom Davies Square Underground Lot. To help control the flow of traffic on Shaughnessy Street, an additional access point to the Shaughnessy East Lot has been added on Van Horne Street.

Parking can be paid for in two convenient ways:
•    HotSpot Parking App: Use your mobile device with your licence plate number, lot number and a credit card or Visa Debit. For more information on how to use HotSpot Parking, visit htsp.ca or sign up by downloading the app from the app store.
•    Pay Stations: Pay by coin or card at pay stations located in municipal parking lots and on-street metered parking.

Drivers are encouraged to check posted signage for parking rates, time limits and other restrictions.

Free Parking Evenings and Weekends
Municipal parking is free on weekends. On weekdays, free parking begins after 5 p.m. at on-street metered parking spaces. 

Special Event Parking
During designated special events, a $5 flat rate applies at the following municipal lots: Shaughnessy East Lot, Sudbury Arena Lot, CP Rail/Elgin Street Lot and Tom Davies Square Underground Lot.

Signs will be posted when special event parking rates are in effect. The $5 fee applies to all vehicles 
parked in designated special event lots, including monthly pass holders and those not attending the event.

Ride GOVA Downtown
GOVA Transit connects communities across Greater Sudbury with the downtown, with several routes providing service near the Sudbury Community Arena and other downtown destinations. Residents can use the online Trip Planner before leaving home to find the best route, departure time and connections for their trip.  

Heading to an event at the Sudbury Community Arena? Individuals attending ticketed events can ride GOVA Transit for free, beginning two hours before the start of the event and continuing until the end of the service day. Passengers must show their paper or electronic event ticket when boarding.
