Greater Sudbury Public Library Wins National Library Award
Jun 25, 2026
The Greater Sudbury Public Library’s high-quality early literacy programming has been recognized through the national TD Summer Reading Club Library Awards. The Library received the award in May for its commitment to supporting children’s literacy, encouraging children to read, and reaching more children through accessible spaces, programs, and resources through its Summer Reading Club initiative in 2025. Last summer, 2,764 participants attended 172 programs and borrowed close to 30,000 children’s books across all 13 Library locations.
The first-place award includes a $5,000 prize to enhance library spaces for children. “We are grateful to the TD Summer Reading Club Library Awards for this investment, which will help us support our goal to make children’s spaces in libraries more inviting and accessible for families,” said Brian Harding, CEO and Chief Librarian of the Greater Sudbury Public Library.
Building off last year’s success, the Library is now launching the 2026 Summer Reading Club initiative, which runs from July 6 to August 30. This year’s “Stock the Lake” Reading Challenge will encourage children to read more throughout the summer through interactive activities and incentives at each of the Library’s 13 locations.
Children’s programs offered this summer include Splash Pad Storytimes and partnered events such as water-safety sessions with the City’s lifeguards, “Hooked on Safety and Fishing Fun” with Ramakko’s, and Killarney Provincial Park’s “Secret Life of Lakes.” Families can also enjoy an exciting show with Kobbler Jay, featuring juggling, fire manipulation, and comedy that will entertain audiences of all ages.
