Greater Sudbury Public Library Unveils Newly Renovated Children's Area at Lively Branch

Jul 10, 2026

The Lively Branch of the Greater Sudbury Public Library has a brand-new Children’s Area thanks to donations from KGHM International and the Friends of the Greater Sudbury Public Library. New features of the area include:

•    A reading tree and bird’s nest lighting to entice young readers into the space
•    A mini-Makerspace, allowing children to design, experiment, and make
•    Fresh shelving to highlight the children’s collection
•    Calm nature-inspired colours to support children, including those with special needs, to stay, read, and play longer
•    A new location in a wing, creating less noise transfer with other Library users, allowing for more focus and less distraction throughout the Branch
•    Natural lighting
•    New furniture for kids, parents, and guardians to relax in the space

The area was designed using a biophilic approach featuring nature-inspired colours and details, which has been shown to support learning.

The refresh was unveiled today with the Mayor and members of City Council in attendance.  The event closed with a story time led by Greater Sudbury Public Library staff.
