Extended Heat Warning: September 5, 2023

An extended heat warning issued by Environment Canada has activated the municipal Hot Weather Response Plan. There are a number of options available to help residents beat the heat today.

Libraries

Greater Sudbury Public Library branches are available as a cool place to visit during the extended heat wave.

The following branches will be open this evening:

  • Main Public Library: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Azilda Gilles Pelland Public Library: 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Capreol Public Library and Citizen Service Centre: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Chelmsford Public Library and Citizen Service Centre: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Dowling Public Library and Citizen Service Centre: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Garson Public Library and Citizen Service Centre: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Levack / Onaping Public Library: 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Lively Public Library and Citizen Service Centre: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • New Sudbury Public Library: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • South End Library: 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Valley East Public Library and Citizen Service Centre: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

•    Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex – open 8 a.m. until 11 p.m.
•    McClelland Community Centre and Arena (Copper Cliff) – open 3 p.m. until 9 p.m.
•    T.M. Davies Community Centre and Arena (Lively) – open 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Splash Pads

The City’s splash pads are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visit www.greatersudbury.ca/splashpads for locations.
Splash pads are unsupervised water play areas, and parents/guardians must supervise their children at all times.

Residents Requiring Additional Assistance

City and community outreach teams will provide support to homeless and vulnerable populations as part of their regular outreach program, including providing water and transportation to services as needed. 

The outdoor drinking water fountain is open at Memorial Park and a water refill station is available outside the Sudbury Community Arena.

Seniors and residents who require assistance should call 311 to discuss their individual situation.
