Community Viewing Party to Celebrate Film and Television in Greater Sudbury

Jul 20, 2023

Join us to celebrate Greater Sudbury’s film and television industry at a community viewing party for the opening of North of Normal. This free evening of entertainment takes place at Sudbury Indie Cinema at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, July 28.

North of Normal, which was filmed in Sudbury, Mattawa and North Bay in 2021, opened at Toronto International Film Festival, screened at Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival and is now beginning its theatrical run. The film, based on the memoir of writer Cea Sunrise Person, chronicles her journey from her childhood in the Yukon wilderness to the runways of Paris. It stars Sarah Gadon (Possessor, Black Bear), Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty, Trainspotting), James D'Arcy (Oppenheimer, Avengers: Endgame) and Amanda Fix (Daisy Jones & the Six, Orphan Black: Echoes).

“Greater Sudbury’s film and television industry is an important economic driver for our city. We often see the film trucks and crews around town, but we don’t always see the final production”, said Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre, “This event is a great opportunity to change that, and to come together as a community to celebrate the great work being done here”.

In 2022, a total of 19 productions were filmed in Greater Sudbury, with a total economic impact of $18.2 million. Staff continue to promote Greater Sudbury at national and international events as a film destination of choice and continue to generate new leads for filming in our community.
