City Recognizes OLG for Community Recognition Program Funding

May 25, 2023

The City of Greater Sudbury thanked the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for their continued support during a cheque presentation at Tom Davies Square on May 25.

For the fiscal year from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, the City received $1,929,529 from revenues generated by Gateway Casinos Sudbury.

“I thank OLG for their continued support of our community,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre. “The millions of dollars they have contributed to Greater Sudbury over the years have supported the growth and well-being of our city and funded essential improvements to our local infrastructure. OLG plays an important role in helping move our community forward and I hope to see this partnership continue for years to come.”

The annual contributions from OLG are placed in the City’s general revenue accounts and are invested into capital projects, including roads. Since 1999, Greater Sudbury has received more than $47.83 million in non-tax gaming revenue from OLG.

“OLG is proud to be a vital part of the City of Greater Sudbury for over 23 years and we look forward to continuing to build on that support”, said Kathleen Devine, OLG’s Senior Municipal Relations Manager. “Each and every year, 100 per cent of OLG profits are reinvested in Ontario to support provincial priorities. From critical infrastructure to important local programs to community festivals, OLG’s profits are hard at work in Greater Sudbury and all across our province to build stronger communities. We also appreciate the contribution of gaming site employees at Gateway Casinos Sudbury who are making life in Greater Sudbury that much better. When you play at an Ontario casino, you play for Ontario”

OLG’s Community Recognition Program funding payments are made under an equitable formula in the Municipality Contribution Agreement which determines the funds municipalities receive for hosting an OLG gaming facility. Payments are based on an escalating scale of gaming revenue consistent across all sites in Ontario.
