City Recognizes Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day

Oct 18, 2022

October 18 is the 22nd annual Child Care Worker and Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. The day recognizes the commitment, hard work and dedication of Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) and people who work with young children.

To honour these workers, the City of Greater Sudbury’s Children Services section held a small celebration at Tom Davies Square, and the Mayor of Greater Sudbury made an official proclamation.

“This year’s Appreciation Day is especially important, as we work toward a Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system that will support quality, accessibility, affordability and inclusivity in early learning child care,” said the Mayor of Greater Sudbury. “On October 18, I encourage everyone to recognize the important work that ECEs and child care workers do and the difference they make in our children’s learning.”

Children Services also held an evening appreciation event at Science North and a postcard campaign where families could write messages of appreciation to early learning professionals who support their children.

There are over 75 licensed child care centres in Greater Sudbury that provide English, French and Indigenous programming. More than 1,000 people work in this sector, including more than 600 Registered Early Childhood Educators.
