Residents Invited to Have Their Say on Home Energy Efficiency

Oct 1, 2021

Join us for Helping Homeowners Benefit From Home Energy Efficiency, a virtual Zoom workshop being held on Wednesday, October 6 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Learn about the benefits of an energy efficient home and the City’s goals to improve housing efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Earlier this year, the City of Greater Sudbury received $170,000 from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities to do a study comparing home retrofit financing models. This session is the first step in the study, to gain valuable insight based on resident questions and experiences.

  • What energy efficient upgrades have you already undertaken?
  • Are there any major barriers preventing you from retrofitting your home?
  • What type of financing options, rebates, incentives or information would be helpful to you?

Retrofitting can involve a wide range of both relatively simple and more extensive measures. Some  examples include:

  • Switching to LED lighting
  • Installing a smart thermostat
  • Adding or replacing insulation
  • Sealing air gaps with caulking or spray foam
  • Installing low-flow showerheads or toilets
  • Replacing window glazing
  • Updating inefficient heating and cooling systems

By making your home more efficient, you can lower your heating and cooling bills, make your home more healthy and comfortable, and contribute to our community’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Your input will help inform what kind of financing program could best support Greater Sudbury homeowners to do home energy retrofits.

Interested residents are asked to register in advance at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIpce-tqDguH9QBAmDrXADZl9ZoGCdjRp5X, and will then receive a confirmation email with more information about joining the meeting. Attendees will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a free rain barrel.
