City Introduces Enhanced Vaccination Requirements at Some Facilities

Nov 12, 2021

Effective Monday, November 15, the City of Greater Sudbury is expanding proof of vaccination requirements to include some additional municipal facilities. This change was unanimously approved by City Council at its meeting on November 9.

Under provincial regulation, proof of vaccination has been required at municipal arenas, pools and fitness centres since September 22. The City’s new requirements will cover additional municipal facilities where visitors typically stay for longer periods of time, including:

  • Lionel E. Lalonde Centre, specifically the areas used to host training events, meetings and conferences (the Collision Reporting Centre is not included)
  • All publicly accessible meeting rooms in City facilities, including Council Chambers
  • Municipally-owned community halls

Anyone 12 and older will be required to show proof of full vaccination, or proof of medical exemption that meets the criteria set out by the Ministry of Health, when visiting these facilities. Proof can be shown electronically or in hard copy and must be shown at every visit. City staff will work with user groups to ensure this requirement is reflected in rental or usage agreements.

Other municipal facilities where visits are typically briefer and more transactional, such as Libraries, Citizen Service Centres and the remainder of Tom Davies Square, are not covered under these new requirements.

Face masks continue to be required at all City facilities, regardless of vaccination status or requirements. Please continue to follow basic but important measures to prevent the spread of illness. Maintain physical distancing, wash your hands often, cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your sleeve and stay home if you feel sick. Get tested if you feel even mildly unwell.

To ensure maximum protection against COVID-19 and the Delta variant, anyone who is eligible should complete their COVID-19 vaccination series as soon as possible.
