Greater Sudbury Public Library Reopens All Locations Beginning October 19

The Greater Sudbury Public Library will complete its phased reopening of all 13 locations beginning Monday, October 19.

Libraries in Azilda and Copper Cliff will open from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays, and from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Levack/Onaping and Coniston public libraries will open from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays.

A return to regular library services continues with the reintroduction of weekend hours at six of the busiest locations as of Saturday, October 17. Main, New Sudbury and South End public libraries will open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Libraries/Citizen Service Centres in Chelmsford, Lively and Valley East will open Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“I’m very excited that we have now restored library services in every part of our community,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor Brian Bigger. “We will remain vigilant in monitoring the spread of COVID-19 in our community, and continue to adjust services when required. The more we all follow the guidance of the Province and Public Health, the greater our chances are of resuming a regular way of life.”

Effective Tuesday, October 13, nine locations have adjusted opening hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Main branch and locations in Chelmsford, Lively, New Sudbury, South End and Valley East will open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m.

Libraries in Capreol, Dowling and Garson will open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 7 p.m.

Greater Sudbury Public Library Board Chair Michael Bellmore reminds residents that public safety measures remain in effect at all library locations.

“Patrons must wear a mask, disinfect their hands often and stay home when not feeling well,” said Bellmore. “Each location has an occupancy limit so we ask patrons to complete their visit in a timely manner. Enhanced cleaning remains in effect and we will continue to quarantine returned or heavily used materials for seven days before returning them to circulation.”

Residents who do not feel comfortable visiting an indoor library may continue to borrow library materials through curbside pickup at most locations. Hours, availability and online reservations are available at www.sudburylibraries.ca or by calling 705-673-1155 for assistance.
